Join the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid for a special History Alive! on the Cherokee Strip on Saturday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This living history event will be a special 1890s-1900s-themed July 4 celebration featuring turn-of-the-century activities and games for all ages, allowing guests to see how Independence Day was celebrated in early Oklahoma. This event is primarily held outdoors in the Humphrey Heritage Village, and the museum galleries will also be open for self-guided tours. All-day activities include yard games, patriotic crafts, plaza chalk art, scavenger hunts, cyanotypes, and music. From 11 to 11:45 a.m., kids between the ages of 10 and 16 can compete in trivia inside the Turkey Creek Schoolhouse. Those 16 and up can test their trivia from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. inside the schoolhouse. Sack races will take place from 2 to 2:30 p.m. between the schoolhouse and Village Church. Egg races will run from 2:30 to 3 p.m. between the schoolhouse and Village Church. Other learning opportunities include learning about Charles Haskell, who was Oklahoma’s first governor. A living historian will also discuss late 19th-century military. Okie-Dokie Dogs will be on-site selling food from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Students will get in free to the event on July 4. Regular admission applies to all other guests. No registration is required for this come-and-go event.
