World Refugee Day
What is this?
Dayton residents have a chance to connect with and celebrate local refugee communities at Welcome Dayton's World Refugee Day event on Saturday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Dayton Metro Library (215 E. Third St.). Admission is free. Designated by the United Nations, World Refugee Day is an international event honoring refugees around the globe. Welcome Dayton’s World Refugee Day event will feature conversation, food, performances, and more. In addition to the day’s activities, Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley will be present to accept donations of personal hygiene products to support its Refugee Services Program, which provides job placement, cultural skills, and other resources. Welcome Dayton launched in 2011 to support integration of immigrants into the Dayton community. Because of these efforts, in 2017 the national non-profit organization Welcoming America declared Dayton the first Certified Welcoming city in the United States.
