From friendly kayak competitions and the “world famous” liar’s boat race to a watermelon eating contest for kids, Walker Lake Days is all about beach fun. Just two hours southeast of Reno, Walker Lake Days is both a celebration and a call to protect one of Nevada’s natural treasures—combining fun, culture, and conservation in a vibrant lakeside setting. The day kicks off with kayak races for pros, amateurs, and kids as young as 5 years old. In the afternoon, the “world famous” liar’s boat race is a can’t-miss spectacle: Teams build their most creative (and likely unseaworthy) “boat” and sail it around Walker Lake with hilarious and chaotic results.
